Elytra with a broad red to orange transverse band in the posterior third, and orange to yellow margins in the anterior half; background colour of elytra and pronotum dark blackish grey, dark blue or dark blue-green with subdued metallic reflections and black at the apex.

This species was first described by Kerremans 1890a under a preoccupied name (Stigmodera apicalis). Recognising this, Blackburn 1890b, in the same year, assigned it a new valid epithet: kerremansi.

Two specimens in the SA Museum are labelled in Blackburn's hand as 'co-types' of Stigmodera kerremansi but these have no locality information attached. However, three specimens there are definitely from SA, being labelled with the locality Lucindale, which is a town in the SE Region of the State. Two of those give 'B. A. Feuerheerdt' as the collector. He was one of the brothers on a property near Lucindale in the late 19th and early 20th century, and there are many other insect collections from Lucindale in the Museum bearing that surname.

No subsequent collections have been reported from SA and the Lucindale occurrence marks the western limit of the species known distribution.

Castiarina kerremansi is thought to be a mimic of the Soldier Beetles genus Chauliognathus (Cantharidae).
