A large and thick-bodied Ethonion species with a somewhat broken-up pattern of elytral scale hair patches which are coloured golden-brown in an inner strip adjoining the suture and silvery-white in the outer two-thirds
In SA E. corpulentum s.str. is confined to the lower part of the SE region where it forms globular galls on the roots and rhizomes of its preferred host plant.

In SA this species appears to use Dillwynia glaberrima (Smooth Parrot-pea) as its principal larval host and has not been found outside the range of that plant species. Although small numbers of E. corpulentum galls have also been recorded on D. hispida (Downy Parrot-pea), these were on plants growing adjacent to infested D. glaberrima. In one case the D. hispida plant involved was rhizomatous, a trait not otherwise known in that species and which raises the possibility of some introgression with D. glaberrima at the site. Although D. hispida is widely distributed in SA, including areas with similar rainfall, E. corpulentum galls have never been recorded on it elsewhere.
