Etymology

Greek 'podos' foot, 'theke' case, referring to the shortly stipitate achenes and Latin 'angusta' narrow, 'folia' leaves

Distribution and status

Common on red sandy soils in mallee, scrub and woodlands.

Plant description

Sparsely sticky, prostrate to ascending annual herb, 2–30 cm high, with swollen stems. Basal leaves linear, attenuate at the base, 2-8 cm long, cauline leaves linear to narrowly oblanceolate, acute to subacute, 2-6 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, bright-green, glandular-pubescent. Capitula close to the ground, erect, on short leafy peduncles, Florets 10–70, about 20 mm long, yellow. Flowering September - October. Fruits are achenes 2-3 mm long, greybrown, finely pubescent; pappus bristles 5, equal, 2.5-3.5 cm long, plumose but glabrous near the base.

Seed collection and propagation

Cut off mature fruiting heads and place in a warm place to dry. Separate seed from fruit head, remove any unwanted material.
