subfamily Buprestinae » tribe Stigmoderini » subtribe Stigmoderina
Castiarina species group: punctiventris
Pronotum widest at posterior 25%. Elytral base with black-blue margin markedly broadening towards the scutellum and confluent posteriorly with the pre-medial fascia, but not continuing any further down the suture; apices bispinose. Ventral side dark blue. Aedeagus linear-rectangular, being narrow with straight parallel sides and truncate at the apex.
This species was previously known on these web pages as 'Castiarina cf. goudiana' until July 2021 when Allen Sundholm proposed that it was C. punctiventris.
It was first described by Saunders in 1869 based on a type specimen from Gawler, SA. The specimen illustrated here is probably the first SA collection since at least 1916, when Carter 1916 published a synonymous species with two syntypes designated as from 'SA'. It differs from two WA specimens seen by having the pre-medial fascia broken into three patches.
