Differs from E. corpulentum in its smaller size, less elongate body shape, shorter aedeagus, and use of a specific larval host plant.
This entity, which appears to be a distinct species, has only been recently recognised in SA following the discovery of its larval host plant. Some museum specimens of this species have been previously identified as E. maculatum but the occurrence of that species in SA is uncertain.
Like E. corpulentum it has globular rather than elongate-shaped galls and the older larvae are usually folded into a 'U' shape within them. Unlike the larval host of E. corpulentum this species' host is not rhizomatous, and the galls are often borne on the surface of the much thicker root crown and upper root.

To date, galls of this species have only been found on the upper roots and root crowns of Small-leaf Euxtaxia Eutaxia microphylla.
