Melobasis igniceps  Distinctive features

Head of male reddish copper to reddish purple; elytra with posterior margins and apices reddish violet or lilac; each elytron with one well defined costa, and traces of one or two others; most similar to M. a. ssp. angustecostata but has a very different aedeagus. (From Levey 2018).

Notes

Levey 2018 comments that SA specimens 'might be representatives of a different undescribed subspecies or species'.
