Etymology
'Sclerolaena' from the Greek skleros, meaning hard; and chlaina, meaning covering; referring to the hard fruiting perianth covering the seed. Bicornis meaning two horns.
Distribution and status
Found predominantly in the Lake Eyre Region in South Australia. Also recorded in other mainland states bar Victoria. Native, common.

Plant description
Shrub with white woolly branches and slender fleshy leaves to 20 mm long. Fruits are fruit covered with white woolly hair except for the distal ends of two (rarely three) prominent spines 10-20 mm long erect to spreading. Seed embryo type is peripheral
Seed collection and propagation
Collect seeds between September and November. Collect seeds by stripping the spiny fruits off wearing gloves to protect from the spines. Remove twigs, leaves and other material using a sieve. Leave fruits to dry before storage
