Greek 'thysanotos' fringed, alluding to the 3 inner perianth-segments and 'baueri' after Franz and Ferdinand Bauer 19th century Austrian botanical artists and brothers
Distribution and status
Grows in wooded areas and open plains in inland regions

Plant description
Herb with small rhizome. Leaves annual and often withering at anthesis, narrow-linear, much shorter than the inflorescence. Inflorescences 15-30 cm tall, simple or branched, racemose, rarely paniculate, 8–30 cm long; flowers in several sessile 2-5-flowered umbels, perianth-segments 8-15 mm long, blue. Flowering October - January. Fruits are capsule 4 mm diameter, 3 celled
