According to Bellamy 1988, distinguished from the similar looking P. aenea by the median gibbosity/boss on the pronotum being extended basally down to the margin above the scutellum where it appears in lateral view as an abrupt rise or upturned ridge. Differs from the smaller and narrower P. pistacina in the pronotum being widest at or near the base, rather than in the anterior half.
Only known in SA only from an early collection, with a printed specimen label bearing the single word 'Yorketown'.
Previously treated on these pages as Paracephala cf. aenea (until November 2023).
